7h Oct 20011 - joint approach by Housing Associations
A joint approach by two new Housing Associations are considering providing the seven affordable houses for the village, as Bromford did not receive government funding. Severn Vale Housing Society would act as the developer/ housing manager with Gloucestershire Rural Housing Association providing the funding and owning the properties. It is expected that the funds will come from within the HA's own reserves, not gov't . The advantage of this is that the HA is not constrained by the rules applying to use of government funding, specifically the rentals being charged at 80% of local market value. The HA can use its own discretion to charge proper affordable rents. Belowis a link to the website of Gloucestershire Rural Community Council( GRCC) - which provides the specialist advice to the parish council on this subject- and explains the approach to rents taken by Severn Vale.

06 August '09 - Uley Playground. Dog fouling
You may have noticed that a new footpath (permitted by the landowner) has been provided by the Cotswold Wardens. It bypasses the playground. The old stile has been closed.

The purpose of this is to prevent children who use our playground from picking up any disease from dog faeces.

We are politely asking for everyone’s co-operation . Please do not take you dog there!

Please be aware that anyone allowing dog fouling there is liable for prosecution under the Dogs Fouling of Land Act 1996.

29 Dec 2008 - Freedom of Information Act
Under the Freedom of Information Act Uley Parish Council has adopted the 'New Model Publication Scheme. For more information please contact the Clerk.

27 Nov 2008 - Hetty Peglars Tump closed
There have been concerns over the stability of the chambers of Hetty Peglars Tump for some time resulting in the access to the inner half being blocked last year.

English Heritage structural engineer has visited the site and it appears that the 19th century repairs left the heavy capstones supported on drystone walling rather than the large orthostats. At several points in the inner chambers this walling is cracking and being crushed and cannot be relied upon to support the capstones for much longer.

In addition there have been several episodes of vandalism where someone has seen fit to dig out the bottom of the drystone walls that support the capstones. The monument has therefore been declared unsafe and unfortunately it will have to be closed for public safety.

English Heritage are arranging for a scaffolding contractor to prop the chambers to stabilise them and will be blocking access to the chambers by infilling the approach path. Funding will then be sought for major repairs which will take some time to organise.
The propping and closure are provisionally planned for the first week in December.

27 Nov 2008 - Parish Precept
In these difficult economic times the Parish Council have agreed to NOT increase the precept for 2009 ( i.e The sum drawn from Stroud District Council each year to meet the expenses of the Parish). Any extra expenditure occurring will be taken from the existing contingency fund. It is hoped that other parishes and Stroud District Council will follow our example to help reduce the increases in council tax.

Jun 2008 - New Chairman of Uley Parish Council

PROPOSED CYCLE TRACK FROM CAM /DURSLEY TO ULEY

With the help of Sustrans (The national cycling charity) and Vale Vision (Dursley amenity group) I am looking into the possibility of extending the proposed Cam to Dursley track up the Uley valley. On Friday 29th February from 3pm until 8pm Sustrans is putting on an exhibition of its ideas at Kingshill House with the hope of receiving comments and demonstrating possible routes.

We hope local cyclists or potential cyclists will come along.
