Economic History - of the village from 1086 - 1968.

The present day village has developed from the original settlement of Wheatenhurst, mentioned in the Doomsday Book, situated one mile to the west, where the parish church of St.Andrews is sited alongside Whitminster House, which dates from the Elizabethan period. Traces of the medieval settlement can be seen in the adjoining fields during dry summers.
